Responsibilities of Sayed Tanzid:

After a collapse of a bathroom floor occurred in one of the apartments of the building which injured two construction workers working in the area, NYC DOB amended to inspect the structural framing of the floor system of the entire building as an emergency work order.

The building was built prior to WW2. Over the years, most of the framings, foundation walls, columns of the building got deteriorated. The Scope of the project was to inspect the 8-Story (27,000 SF each floor including the basement and cellar) to conduct condition assessment reports and provide design drawings for necessary repairs where existing structures deteriorated.

The building was made in the 1930s and the lack of existing structural or architectural drawings was the biggest challenge in the assessment process. The assessment included exterior envelope of the load-bearing masonry wall, flooring made of wood on steel framings and sometimes concrete, ceiling, existing rubble foundation walls, HVAC system, and plumbing systems causing deterioration of existing structural framings. Due to DOB’s immediate action order to ensure the safety of the tenants, an intensive line of communication with tenants, building super, building management, and the contractor was required to conduct the field investigation to ensure timely inspections, temporary shoring, and repair plan without evacuating the building in the process.

Mr. Tanzid conducted field measurements of interior apartments. Using the field data, Mr. Tanzid produced a Revit model and CAD drawings of building floors with interior partition walls. Mr. Tanzid along with another Structural Engineer performed field investigations on 50 apartments to check floor framing conditions and determine if repair is necessary with Mr. Solomon Rosenzweig. He also produced repair plan, temporary shoring plan for the floor system, foundation walls, and other areas that required repair.
